  1. We listen carefully to you talking us through your thoughts in terms of both design and function.
  2. We observe the surrounding environment in detail to ensure the new design fits within your broader environment and is functional.
  3. We offer a free design service and provide bathroom designs for your critique and feedback.

5 things to consider BEFORE you begin your bathroom renovation

  1. Lighting. With the range of activities we all perform in a bathroom lighting should be one of your first considerations.
    1. How much light do you want or need?
    2. Can you make your window bigger while maintaining your privacy?
    3. Would you like to consider a one way mirror?
    4. Do you want fluorescent lighting or normal lighting?
  2. Space and functionality. While a bigger shower, bath, or vanity unit might seem like a great idea you need to carefully work out where everything is going to fit.
    1. How many people do you expect will be in the bathroom at the same time?
    2. Do you need a double sink, or two mirrors?
    3. How often do you use a bath? Do you really need one, and if so, how big?
    4. What sort of shower do you want? A swinging shower door needs room to swing.
  3. Style. We all have our own preferences and tastes and it is important you feel good when you're in the privacy of your bathroom. But there are a few other considerations when determining style.
    1. What is the current style of the rest of the house?
      1. Consider the kitchen when thinking about a new bathroom.
      2. Consider your master bedroom when renovating your ensuite.
    2. Are you likely to change the current style in the near future?
    3. What is the likelihood you will sell in the foreseeable future?
      1. Any bathroom renovation should add value to your home. A very unusual design may limit the added value.
  4. Water conservation. This is now a very real issue and will become more important to us over time.
    1. Do you want to consider water saving when selecting shower heads, determing the size of your bath, or whether a spa is really necessary?
    2. Do you want to pipe in tank water for flushing the toilet?
    3. Do you want to pipe out the waste water for use in your garden?
  5. Cost / budget. All good projects have a budget. Decide early on what you can afford and then prioritise accordingly.

Walk in showers

Many clients are choosing to convert older style showers to modern walk in showers as a part of their reconstruction process.

Walk in showers allow you to walk straight into a flat floor shower where the tiles that form the bathroom floor continue into the shower.  This design type requires intelligent floor design to ensure no pooling of water or inappropriate leakage.

Most often we use a unique tile tray system that has a built in slope within the design.  Using this sloped tray we waterproof it with the membrane most suitable for the job.  We can then lay your choice of tile design on top giving you both the look and protection you desire.

Below is a summary of the installation process for a shower tile tray:
  1. Check the existing floor base and level it if / as required.
  2. Ensure the underlay is dry (dry it as necessary) and mark the location of required elements such as the drain.
  3. Using an appropriate adhesive (most often polyurethane) glue the underlay to the floor.
  4. Fix the drain pipe and drainage flange in place with plumber glue.
  5. Apply the selected waterproofing membrane to the floor and appropriate walls .
  6. When the waterproofing is dry, tile floors and walls with selected tiles.

Wheelchair access

A walk in shower with built in moderate slope is also perfect for Wheelchair Access.

Bathrooms and water leakage

Tradesmen tend to have areas of specialty - think plumber, electrician, carpenter.

Unfortunately, when the government mandated water proofing for bathroom installations many tradesmen with limited experience professed themselves as experts in waterproofing and the end result has been shower installations that have subsequently proven to be ineffective.

Waterproofing membranes

Predominantly showers fail through bad membraning techniques or lack of a membrane being in place at all.  Our specialists understand how water flows and how to waterproof a bathroom and shower effectively.
